BINTULU: Police personnel are urged to give their best at all times in order to serve the people better.

“The people need good service from police so that they can work closely with us in combating crime,” Sarawak police commissioner Dato Wira Muhammad Sabtu Osman told a press conference at police headquarters here yesterday.

“When the people come to the (police) station make them feel at home. Treat them well and show that we care.

“They (our clients) must be duly informed about the progress of our investigation into whatever cases they have brought to our attention,” he said.

He also reminded officer in-charge of police stations to equip the station with enough of the usual things such as mineral water, proper waiting room, newspaper and clean washroom.

Earlier, he was briefed about the crime index in Bintulu by its police chief Supt Madang Usat.

“Based on the briefing I am satisfied on several things but there is still room for improvement on several others. One of them that need more attention is robbery with or without weapons which increased by 35 cases last year,” he said.

Muhammad Sabtu also touched on the proposed new police station in Samalaju Industrial Park which had been discussed at the top level and some upgrading works on several police stations as well as to strengthen the force with the setting up of the General Operations Force (PGA).

“The site of this PGA camp about 8Km from the proposed Samalaju police station has been identified. Construction will start as soon as approval is obtained from the federal authority,” he said.

On ‘lori hantu’ plying the Tubau-Bakun road, he assured that his personnel were doing the best they could to address the issue with continuous and integrated operations with other relevant agencies.
