MIRI: A jealous husband is believed to have slashed his wife to death on the neck with a Badik — a curved knife — at an oil palm estate in Kuala Suai some 200km from here yesterday.

Tompok Nyara, 39, from Makasar, Indonesia is said to have then slashed his own neck in the workers’ quarters that he and his wife Salasiah Janar, 33, shared.

Her brother Agus Jamar, who also works in the estate, said he was awoken by his sister’s shouts for help around 2am.

“I was walking towards their room to inspect … and I was shocked when I saw the blood,” he recalled.

He found the couple lying face up in a pool of blood.

Agus then rushed to inform their supervisor of the incident and an emergency call was later made to the Batu Niah police station.

Both husband and wife were initially thought to have died based on the amount of blood at the scene.

However, when a team of police from Miri arrived around 10am, Tompok was found to still be breathing.

He was taken to Bintulu Hospital for medical treatment, while Salasiah’s body was sent to Miri Hospital for a post-mortem.

It is believed that Tompok suspected Salasiah was having an affair with a co-worker.

When contacted, Miri police chief ACP Mun Kock Keong confirmed receiving a report on the incident.

“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said.

During their investigation, police discovered two Badik in the room.
