Thailand stint for Sukma exponents

KUCHING: The Sarawak Taekwondo Association (WTF) aims to achieve better results than their last Sukma outing in Pahang at the Sukma XVII in Perlis from May 25 to June 7.

Its president Mohd Salleh Sani said to do this, the association had sent a team of 12 potential exponents including four female members to Bangkok, Thailand for an intensive centralised training stint.

“We are looking forward to surpassing our achievement in the last Sukma in Pahang in 2012 and we are confident that both our male and female exponents can deliver in the coming Sukma,” he said.

In Pahang, Sarawak had emerged the overall champion team by capturing four gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

‘Our exponents had displayed true grit, perseverance and determination to win during the recent state selection trial and various national tournaments.

“If they continue to possess such strong mentality and are in the right frame of mind, there is every chance we will achieve a better result in Perlis,” added Salleh.

According state technical chairman Tan Check Joon, the Sukma team will undergo various friendly matches and intensive training in Bangkok.

“This exposure trip is aimed at sharpening their skills, to find the best ways to overcome their weaknesses and improve on their strengths,” he pointed out.

“They have been working very hard and all of them have only one thing in mind and that is to bring back as many gold medals as possible for the state,” he said.
