KUCHING: Unimas Holdings Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) announced RM0.45 dividend per share for the financial year 2013.

This was announced by its chairperson Datuk Jabidah Monseri, adding that it also plans give back to the university in the form of grants to help needy students who study at the university.

“For the last financial year, the company has performed reasonably well and we can distribute RM0.45 per share to the shareholders,” she said at the first Unimas Holdings annual dinner on Thursday.

The dinner was attended by senior staff and board members of Unimas.

Meanwhile, company director and Unimas vice chancellor Professor Dato Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said that as the university’s funding from the government is limited, it has to look for other means.

“For 2014, I told all deans that Unimas should contribute RM2.5 million for management funding which is for the products development and marketing activities.”

“We are also looking at making the standard operating procedures (SOP) more user friendly and not cause distress to the researchers who are doing their job. This will in turn yield more dividends for Unimas,” he said.

He added that the university would hand over part of the management of Dahlia hostels to the company to provide premium accommodations and better facilities which is targeted at international students. There are 19 Dahlia hostel blocks.

Apart from that, four of hostel blocks will be handed over to Unimas Holdings to be operated as a private entity as hotel or homestay, he said.

The company was established in 2006 as a commercial arm of the university, to provide quality consultancy, research, training and continuous professional development programmes. It also helps Unimas to promote and manage all its post-graduate commercial programmes.

To-date, the company has delivered over 600 various consultancy and research projects.
