Enough is enough, put a stop to frequent blackouts – Gerakan

KOTA KINABALU: Another Sabah leader has come forward urging Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to resolve the power disruption problem that is affecting the state.

Gerakan Sabah liaison chairman Datuk Gordon Leong said: “Enough is enough. Sabah is already experiencing frequent blackouts but for it to happen statewide is really unforgivable.

“Do something about it, investigate and find out what actually happened and also do something to actually improve, as the instances of blackouts in Sabah are too frequent,” Gordon said.

Gordon, who was met at the Gerakan Sabah’s annual Chinese New Year walkabout at Gaya Street here yesterday, said this when asked to comment about the statewide blackout on Friday and also Industrial Development Minister, Datuk Raymond Tan’s call for the public to claim compensation from SESB for the inconveniences caused by the power outage.

“I am in full support of Raymond and Sabah Gerakan Youth chief’s statements on the issue. There is no excuse for SESB this time. Enough is enough so they must be held accountable.

“This cannot be happening all the time. We are not criticizing but hoped that SESB will take what we say as something constructive as everybody is angry over what had happened last Friday.

“I am sure the state Government will look into it and hopefully come up with some kind of solution. There must be some positive steps taken to address the problem. What actually happened on Friday gives us the reason to demand for something to be done,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, on the walkabout, Gordon said that it is the time of the year where Gerakan Sabah leaders and members go round Gaya Street to convey their greetings and well wishes for the coming Chinese New Year.

This is one of Gerakan Sabah’s annual events and its two elected representatives, Datuk Raymond Tan and Datuk Au Kam Wah, are also doing the same in Sandakan, he said.

Gordon added that this year Gerakan Sabah’s annual Chinese New Year open house will be held in Sandakan on the first day of the Chinese New Year.

“We will also be holding another one here in the state capital at a later date for party members and we will invite BN component parties’ leaders as well as some NGOs,” he said.
