KOTA KINABALU: Wanita Umno Kota Kinabalu wants all its bureau chairpersons who were appointed to expand and strengthen their roles to ensure the party will be able to face challenges.

Its chief, Rosimah Zakariah said with a better performance, the party will be able to maintain Barisan Nasional’s winning in the next General Election.

Rosimah added all bureau chairpersons who were appointed have their own roles, especially in Kota Kinabalu parliamentary, which was won by an opposition candidate who had subsequently jumped ship and is now openly supporting Barisan Nasional.

“Two state seats under Kota Kinabalu parliamentary, namely Api-Api and Likas, are currently held by the opposition. We have a tough job here, so all bureaus need to work hard,” she explained.

Rosimah said this after the swearing-in ceremony of Kota Kinabalu Wanita Umno committee members and its bureau chairpersons, here, yesterday.

A total of 14 bureau chairpersons were appointed in the movement, which will be headed by Hafsah Mohamed Lin (Management Secretariat), Saadiah Zakaria (Politic Education), Azizah Ag Samat (Special Tasks), Hajir Hassan (Liaison), Rubainah Osman (Culture and Arts), Rokiah Datu Bara (Community Complaints), Siti Ruani Junin (Membership and Voters), Aisyah Tawakkal (Religion), Norhayati Momen (Economy and Development), Normah Taulan (Sports), Rosnah Abdullah (New Media Unit), Asriayani Summase (Speech) and Durita Puntukan (Welfare).

Meanwhile, commenting on the recent issue of price hikes on goods, Rosimah said the government should be doing something as price hikes will be the major challange in 2014.

“We welcome the move by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in cutting down the cost and allowance of our government officers and ministers to ensure we can save more money.

“Leaders and government officers must show their positive attitude towards this move so that the people will see how these people are serious in teaching them to cut down their expenses and save money,” she said.

Rosimah also advised consumers to be smart in choosing the best price in the market.

Also present at the event was Wanita Umno Vice Chief, Nuriya Muamil.
