MIRI: One hundred and fifty needy senior citizens here received angpows and mini hampers from Sports Toto Malaysia yesterday.
They were among 17,000 senior citizens, aged 60 and above, selected nationwide for the charity programme.
Sports Toto Miri area sales executive Joseph Tan said the charity event, which started from Jan 16 to 23 nationwide aimed to bring joy to the needy especially with Chinese New Year approaching.
“At the beginning of each year, we reach out to needy senior citizens as part of our corporate social responsibility,” he said at the presentation of donation at one of Sports Toto sub-branches at Bumiko here yesterday.
Tan added that the charity campaign organised annually does not only benefit the targeted group but raised awareness on the importance of supporting and caring for underprivileged people all over the country.
A total of RM900,000 was spent on the entire donation campaign nationwide.
