Police will take firm action against traffic offenders in Ops Selamat

NILAI: Police will take firm, uncompromising action against traffic offenders in their effort to reduce road accidents in the country.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin said a total enforcement approach would be used as the advocacy and awareness concept was not effective on road users.

“We are going for total enforcement. We hope the involvement of various agencies would reduce the number of road accidents and the loss of lives.

“Before this, we used the courtesy approach but that was not effective. Most of the road accidents were caused by carelessness and that is why we must have total enforcement,” he told a press conference after the launch of the Ops Selamat 4/2014 road safety operation in conjunction with the Chinese New Year holidays at the Seremban rest and recreation area near here yesterday.

Ops Selamat will begin today and end on Feb 7.

The operation focuses on ensuring all road users are safe while on the road. — Bernama
