Mohd Armirul is Boys Under 18 chess champion

MIRI: Mohd Armirul Luq Man Abdul Rahman Thaini from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang emerged the Boys Under 18 champion in the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Miri’s Chess Competition recently.

His schoolmate Muhd Nur Hamizan Jali was the runner-up while Mohd Nizam Mohammad from SMK Agama came in third.

In the Boys Under 15 contest, the champion was Wong Wei Jie from SMK Chung Hua followed by Ahmad Aizat Rabani Azizan from SMK Agama and Nicholas Sham from SMK Merbau.

Nur Nafisa Abdullah from SMK Dato Permaisuri won the Girls Under 18 title.

The runner-up in this category was Alya Afiqah Alias from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang while her schoolmate Norehan Mahal finished third.

Husna Hasri from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang was the champion for the Girls Under 15 competition.

Second and third were and third were Husna Mohammad Alifiah from SM Sains Miri and Siti Khairunnisa Syaswana Saffar from SMK Agama Miri respectively.

One hundred and fifty-seven students from 13 secondary schools in Miri took part in the competition which was held at SMK Baru Miri’s Sri Harmoni hall.

The prizes were given away by Miri District assistant education officer Alias Ngah.

Also present was the SMK Baru Miri’s senior assistant administrative Boyce Ngau Anyi.

Meanwhile, 24 participants have been selected to represent Miri for the state level chess competition in Sibu later.
