SIBU: SK Abang Ali has decorated its premises and compound for the Chinese New Year celebration in a collaborative effort by its headmaster, teachers, non-teaching staff and pupils.

Headmaster Mahmud Ahad said teacher Halim Hamid spearheaded the joint effort.

When met at the school yesterday, Halim said the school had made it a point to decorate its premises and compound for every festival.

“It’s done in line with the 1Malaysia spirit,” he said, adding that it was a way to foster racial harmony.

“We do the same for the Chinese New Year though we’ve no Chinese pupils,” he said.

The school has 800 pupils and 64 teachers and a few non-teaching staff.

“Four of our teachers are Chinese,” he pointed out.

“Like before, we are spending very little on the decoration because the materials used are largely recyclable items,” he explained.
