Consumers Day Teachers’ Award introduced

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Consumers Day (MCD) Teacher’s Award will be introduced in a Consumerism Competition in conjunction with MCD this year, to give recognition to the educators.

Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) vice-president Siti Rahayu Zakaria said that a new category was one of the 12 categories that would be contested on Feb 10.

“The category will be open to primary and secondary school teachers, and teachers who are interested can send entries with their profile and their involvement in consumerism education,” she told Bernama, here, yesterday.

Siti Rahayu said other categories that would be contested were consumerism essay writing contest, video montage, drawing and creating graphic poster, cartoon drawing, blog and consumerism photography.

In addition, the ‘MyWater’ saving water campaign that was introduced last year would be continued this year to educate the youngsters to be more responsible when using water sources.

“This year, Fomca targets about 200,000 entries from youngsters including from primary and secondary schools, students from institutes of higher education and the public,” she said.

Siti Rahayu said cash prizes totalling RM225,000 would be given out to the winners and all participants would be given a certificate recognised by the Ministry of Education.

The MCD Consumerism Contest that was introduced in 2002 aimed to create a smart consumer generation who are prudent and always alert on consumerism issue. The closing date for the contest is July 4, 2014 and further information can be obtained via www.mypengguna.com. — Bernama
