KUCHING: A Magistrates’ Court here yesterday set March 10 for a social report to be tendered in a case involving a skills training college student charged with making a false police report on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old youth appeared before Magistrate Shafiza Abdul Razak Tready who made the order pending the sentencing as the accused is a youthful offender.

The youth allegedly between 1pm and 1.30pm at the One Stop Centre of Kuching district police station at Jalan Simpang Tiga on Feb 5 lodged a false police report recorded by Inspector Phillip Kanyai.

In his statement he said two men wore mask and, armed with pistol and knife, robbed him in front of his college at Stutong around 10.30am on Feb 5.

He claimed that ‘the robbers’ had shoved a knife at his wrist and pointed the pistol at his head and forced him to surrender a laptop and RM20 cash.

According to the investigation officer, the report lodged by the accused caused a stir as it involved a dangerous weapon, a pistol which made it a serious offence.

However the police’s initial investigation cast doubt on the statement recorded from the accused and he was summoned to the police station for further questioning when he admitted lying.

The offence framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code provides for an imprisonment up to six months or fine, or both upon conviction.

Inspector Ahmad Ilias prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
