KOTA KINABALU: A local woman is fighting for her life at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here after being allegedly stabbed in the abdomen by her stepfather at Prince Philip Park in Tanjung Aru here yesterday morning.

The incident is said to have happened around 8.30am when the 33-year-old victim from Kampung Laut Papar was taken to the park by the suspect for a discussion which led to the attack.

Deputy city police chief Superintendent M. Chandra said based on initial police investigation, the suspect had taken the victim to the park to meet up with a friend.

“When they arrived at the park, there was no one around the area.

“The suspect then confessed to the victim that his purpose of driving her from Papar to Tanjung Aru was to urge her to drop a court case against him that was filed by the victim for physical abuse.

“Police believe the victim refused to drop the charges which prompted the suspect to attack her,” he said, adding that the police believed the suspect attacked the victim with a knife and wood.

Chandra said after the attack, the suspect immediately fled the scene.

The victim, however, managed to seek help from the public before a police patrol car arrived.

“The victim was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for emergency treatment but was reported to be in stable condition.

“Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect and we urge anyone with information of this case to come forward to assist police in the investigation,” he said.

The case would be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, he added.
