KAPIT: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) staff here has been urged to continue working hard to meet growing expectations, especially since Kapit has become known nationwide as home to several hydroelectric dams.

Hulu Rajang MP Wilson Ugak Kumbong said Kapit now has Bakun and Murum dams, and soon Baleh and Baram dams might be added to its list.

“Hydroelectric power is green technology and it is vital for SCORE (Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy). Without these dams it is impossible for SCORE to triumph,” he said during a dialogue session with SEB Kapit branch staff here recently.

Political secretary to the Chief Minister Sarawak, Jefferson Jamit Unyat, who was also present, complimented SEB staff here for being proactive.

On another matter, he said he was glad that leaders here, irrespective of political affiliation, were often able to work together.

“We have good leadership and governance, and with the full support of the people we often speak with one voice. A good example of this is when we are able to achieve consensus on the development of Bakun and Murum dams.

“We must accept development in a positive perspective.”

Meanwhile, SEB divisional engineer Mariana Sylvester Panau, who gave a briefing on SEB’s Sport and Recreational Club here, said it was formed in 2012 to meet the needs of the workers.

Ugak later presented a grant of RM5,000 to the club for it to carry out its activities this year.
