KUCHING: Sukma 2013 gold medalist Heendrew Lois Rekan and two other Sarawakian female muaythai boxers could be representing the nation in international competition soon.

They have been called up for the National Sports Council (MSN) elite programme which prepares athletes for future international tournaments. The two female boxers are Ayu Arynafa’ Iza Azmi and Nurzafarisha Jafari.

Heendrew won the Sukma gold medal in Kuala Lumpur last year. He defeated Selangor’s Muhammad Sahrin Afzan in the final of the 60-63kg category to win Sarawak’s first ever Sukma gold in the sport.

The Lundu native said he was honoured when he received news of his selection.

“Had it not been for the help from the state coach Chim Wiloetram and my club JBL, I would not have made it this far so I would like to thank them,” he added.
