Students urged not to let poverty affect their ambitions

TAWAU: Students in the rural areas were advised not to use poverty as an excuse not to pursue their ambitions.

Tawau Umno deputy chief Datuk Hj Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said such students should be aware of the importance of knowledge to change their situation.

“I believe that only education can change the lives of all of us,” he said when opening the 2013 Outstanding Student Awards Ceremony at SK Balung here on Thursday.

Nizam said education would not only bring changes to the students but the families and the community at large would have a positive impact from the result of their success in the field.

Therefore, efforts should be made by all parties, whether parents or teachers, to ensure the success of students as they impact on our lives as a whole.

“Education is a key factor to form a developed country in the future,” he said.

Efforts to provide education among the new generation of students now need to be consolidated to ensure future success.

He said the government had allocated billions of Ringgit to ensure access to education in schools across the country, and this should be utilized together.

“Government efforts alone are not enough; parents and teachers need to help the government to realize this goal,” he said.

He added that awareness on the importance of knowledge should also be instilled in the students themselves as they are the ones to determine the country’s success in the future.
