Mechanic charged with murder of single mother

KUALA LUMPUR: A mechanic, who was previously charged with the attempted murder of a single mother and her two children, was charged at the magistrates’ court yesterday with her murder.

Mohd Afizi Abdul Rahman, 26, is accused of killing Saliza Saidin, 29, who succumbed to severe burns on Feb 1, after 12 days in the Burns Treatment Unit of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

He allegedly killed Saliza, his girlfriend, in a house at the Desa Rejang People’s Housing Project in Setapak Jaya, Sentul near here between 1 am and 1.30am on Jan 21.

No plea was recorded from the bicycle shop mechanic, who faces the mandatory death sentence under Section 302 of the Penal Code, if convicted.

Magistrate Zura Syazween Hamizan scheduled April 21 for mention pending the chemist and forensic reports.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa, while the accused was unrepresented.

On Jan 29, Mohd Afizi was charged at the Sessions Court with three counts of attempted murder by setting Saliza and her two children, aged one year and three months and two months, on fire. — Bernama
