KUCHING: The Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Division Chinese Association (Hua Zong) will soon have its permanent premises with the purchase of three units of a three-storey shophouse at Sungai Apong.

Its president Temenggong Lu Kim Yong said the purchase deal was finalised last Dec 16.

“It is a dream come true for many of us who have been with Hua Zong for so many years,” he said in his speech at the federation’s Chinese New Year cum 35th anniversary celebration and appreciation dinner here on Sunday.

The dinner was graced by outgoing Chief Minster Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib.

However, Lu said the association was still aspiring for a piece of state land for long term development of Hua Zong.

“This is because the space of the shoplots is limited. Currently, Hua Zong has 114 affiliated member associations and more than 10,000 members in Kuching and Samarahan divisions.”

Lu also expressed his gratitude to Taib for transforming the state into a well-developed state with people of all races and religions living in unity and harmony.

Also present were Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Federation of Community Associations of Kuching Division president Datuk Sim Swee Yong, Federation of Chinese Associations Sarawak president Dr Wong Aik Loung, Foochow Association Kuching president Wong Tiong Hook and Vice-Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Liu Dongyuan.
