MIRI: Marina Parkcity project when completed will bring Miri City to a higher level, making the city more attractive to local and foreign investors.

Its first phase has been completed and the project is entering its second phase.

“This will be another boost for Miri as it moves further into becoming a vibrant resort city,” said Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin in a press conference yesterday.

With him were Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai and local councillors.

The press conference was held after a briefing on the project by Chee Siew Pin, chief operating officer of Pantai Bayu Indah Sdn Bhd, developer of the Marina Parkcity Miri project.

According to Lee, he is happy that the project focuses on a green concept that includes the planting of many trees around the project site and its surrounding areas.

“This is a wonderful concept because it will help make Miri a green resort city. People will not feel like they are surrounded by concrete jungle even in this modern era.

“Apart from that, this is in line with Miri’s aim of becoming a healthy resort city,” he said, adding that green landscape is a very important part of development projects.

Lee praised the developer for coming up with the Marina Parkcity project.

“A lot of the development being carried out in and around Miri City are private sector driven.

“I must say that I am very happy that many from the private sector are working closely with the government and the local council to make Miri better,” he said, adding that the project is one of the examples of collaboration between private companies and the local authority.

Meanwhile, Chee, who was also present at the press conference, said the Marina Parkcity Miri project is part of a long term planning to make Miri what it is expected to be in 15 to 16 years’ time.

“The project was planned according to the future, with wider road to overcome traffic congestion as well as high speed optic cable for Internet and communication facilities,” he said.

He added that the planning was designed to meet the needs of Mirians up to the next 20 years.

Elaborating on the project, Chee said its implementation started about 20 months ago and the first phase had been completed while the second phase was ongoing.

“All the shoplot units for phase 1 and phase 2 have been sold out.

“Those who are still interested to purchase shoplots in the project can wait for the launch of phase 3,” he said.
