IPOH: Four students of the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College in Perak, three of them girls and one a boy, were killed in a road accident involving a car and a lorry near the junction to Gua Tempurung on the Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur trunk road early yesterday, police said.

The driver of the Perodua Viva car, Thomas Loh H’ng Tet, and the girls, Koh Suet Mun of Lahat, Wong Pei Pei of Batu Gajah and Ling Yok See of Manjung Raya, Lumut, all aged 20, died on the spot, said Kampar OCPD Supt Ng Kong Soon.

Their bodies were sent to the Kampar Hospital, he said, adding that the lorry driver, I. Balvinder Singh, 42, was unhurt.

The students had been pursuing a diploma course in business management.

A spokesman of the Kampar Fire and Rescue Station said they were alerted to the accident at 5.07am and had to remove the bodies trapped in the wrecked car.

Ng said the grey car, travelling from Ipoh in the direction of Kuala Lumpur, was involved in a head-on collision with the lorry which was laden with tar.

Balvinder Singh, who is from Chenderiang, had been held for questioning, he added.

The lorry was transporting the tar from Kampar to Taiping.

The impact of the collision caused it to overturn.

Ng said the police were trying to trace the owner of the car. — Bernama
