Four held for ‘shoplifting’ at gutted hypermarket

SANDAKAN: Police have arrested four men for stealing handbags from the burnt-down Servay Hypermarket here.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Rowell Marong said the men were carrying a sack and coming out from a hole behind the hypermarket about 1.30am on Wednesday.

“Upon investigation, police found seven hand bags inside the sack,” he said, adding that the four men had been detained.

“It is still considered stealing even though they took something from a burnt-down building,” Rowell said.

The hypermarket burned down last month and had been left unsupervised with many goods and items left inside.
