DUNGUN: The public will soon be able to lodge a police report through email as the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will be introducing the mechanism to improve efficiency in handling reports.

Its Management Department director, Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the new system was aimed at making it easier and faster for the public to maka a police report, in tandem with the technological development taking place and availability of the Internet.

He said PDRM was making thorough preparations before the public could benefit from the new system.

“This is part of our investigation modernisation process. At the moment, we’re having a slight technical problem but we’re trying to solve it in order to provide the best service to the public.

“Once it’s solved, we’ll activate the system,” he said after closing a course for trainees of an adolescent programme, here, yesterday.

Mohamed Fuzi said, through the email system, case investigation could start immediately upon receiving the police report, and PDRM believed the system could save time and improve efficiency, and ultimately change public perception of the police force.

“The public can make a report at any police station or from wherever they are, including Sabah and Sarawak, through the online facility.

“Disciplinary action can be taken against the police officers or policemen on duty if they are found to have ignored such reports,” he added. — Bernama
