Shareda president’s terms of office reduced

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association yesterday passed a motion to reduce the maximum terms of office of elected president to two consecutive years.

Previously, the maximum term of office of the elected president is three consecutive terms, of two years each.

This was among the seven motions passed during SHAREDA’s 21st annual general meeting held yesterday.

The other six motions included changing and appointing two new trustees out of three trustees, where Datuk Abu Bakar M Yehya @ M Yahya and Robin Loh Hoon Loi will be replacing Goh Fah Shun and Chew Sang Hai, while Datuk Wong Siew Guen @ Nirah Wong has been maintained; enlarging the Council of SHAREDA to 18 from 15 members. This means there would an extra of one elected ordinary council member, one assistant secretary-general and one youth committee chairperson, both to be nominated by president.

They also passed a motion that Shareda incorporates a company under the Companies Act 1965 of Malaysia for the purpose of setting up an umbrella special purpose vehicle with its primary objective to facilitate its members to collectively construct affordable housing in Sabah and help rehabilitate or revive any property development as long as it is not in competition with the association.

In addition, Shareda will also form a Youth Committee with the objective of educating the youth members in the property development industry; the president be given a casting vote at the Council meeting, and lastly a budget not exceeding RM50,000 from Shareda’s Building Fund be approved to be utilized for the renovation of its secretariat’s mini auditorium and conference room, where the existing built-in permanent partitioning wall will be replaced and a door to the conference room will be replaced with a collapsible partitioning wall and door.

These motions were proposed to suit the members, as well as resolving their existing problems.
