KUCHING: Confident single Bidayuh ladies aged between 18 and 28 years old and at least five feet tall, are invited to join the ‘Dayung Sangon’ beauty pageant.
The event is organised for the first time by the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) in conjunction with this year’s Gawai Dayak celebration.
The organising committee headed by Dr Benedict Poris has started working on the event since last December in ensuring the success of the event.
Benedict said contestants will undergo the preliminary round on April 26 while the final will be held on May 10 this year at the DBNA multi-purpose hall, Jalan Kumpang, off Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here.
He said the entry requirements are that contestants must be a single Bidayuh lady or of mixed parentage (either parent must be Bidayuh), between 18 and 28 years of age as at May 10, 2014 and at least five feet tall.
Contestants are required to attach with the contest form two 4R sized (full body) photographs.
He said contestants will be responsible for their own make-up, traditional costumes, own transport to and from the contest venue.
“Those who have won other state or national level beauty pageant contests are not qualified to enter the contest,” he said.
He also explained contestants would be judged on their beauty (50 per cent), intelligence (20 per cent), costume (20 per cent) and poise (10 per cent).
“The Dayung Sangon champion will walk away with RM3,000 cash prize while the first and second runner-up will win RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively, besides trophies.
“There will also be nine consolation prizes of RM200 each and all finalists will receive hampers sponsored by Nestle Products,” said Benedict.
He said all contestants are required to wear dress or skirts at knee length only with high heel shoes during the preliminary round while all finalists must wear full and complete Bidayuh traditional costumes with accessories.
All finalists are required to wear high heel shoes not more than two and half inches high.
During the rehearsals, all finalists are required to wear black pants and white t-shirts.
