SIBU: Fewer than 100 of the some 2,300 Rela members of Sibu Jaya Community Service Centre are active, prompting their chairman Captain Wong Kah Hung to urge those inactive to ‘wake up’.

He told the Rela members that they must be active in community work and their own activities.

“You cannot just carry the name as Rela members and do nothing,” he said.

Wong was unhappy that very few members turned up at their weekly marching drill behind the Pasar Tamu of Sibu Jaya.

“The marching drill every Sunday from 4pm to 6pm is disciplinary training.

“I expect a lot more to turn up,” he said, adding that the drill began two weeks ago.

The 2,300 members of the centre included those from Bukit Tanggi and Durin areas.

Meanwhile, he reminded the older members to renew their membership.

He said those wanting their cards to be successfully renewed had better stay active with the centre’s activities, pointing out also that the headquarters in Kuching must approve the renewal application.
