SMK Bintulu and Jonathan Tinggang shine in divisional schools meet

BINTULU: SMK Bintulu beat off 10 other teams to emerge overall champion in the Bintulu Division School Sports Council (MSS) track and field meet with 47 gold, 27 silver and 32 bronze medals for a total of 571 points.

Second place went to SMK Bakun with 359 points, with a 22-22-23 medal tally. SMK Bandar took third placing with 292 points from 20-22-13.

The event was held at the Bintulu Stadium from March 6.

Fourth to 10th placings went to SMK Tatau, SMK Kidurong, SMK Sebauh, SMK Asyakirin, SMK Baru, SMK Kemena, SM Kai Dee and Bintulu Vocational College respectively.

Jonathan Tinggang Ngabang from SMK Tatau was adjudged the male athlete of the meet after breaking one MSS state and two division records in the three events he won.

He cleared 2.07m in the high jump to surpass the MSS Sarawak record of 2.02m, followed by MSS Bintulu records in the long jump (6.18 metres) and triple jump (13.61 metres) in the Boy’s Under-18 category.

The individual award for the girls went to Marjorie Umban from SMK Bandar who obtained two gold medals and a bronze.

She recorded 2:42.50” in the 800m to break the previous MSS Bintulu record of 2:45.80”.

In the 400 metres, she clocked 69.31” and in the 1500 metres she was timed at 6:13.60”.

The prizes were presented by Bintulu Education officer Abdul Muin Abdul Kassim at the end of the meet.

SMK Kidurong played host for the meet and SMK Assyakirin will organise the next year’s event.
