SARIKEI: The Sarikei Community College, which has moved to Central Road, will offer a 20-month Culinary Certificate and 16-month Computer Systems and Support Certificate.

Director William Abeng said the culinary certificate will begin in November, while the computer certificate will start in March next year.

“If needed, the college may offer up to five courses in future and when that time comes, the college has to look for bigger premises. The present premises is just enough for conducting two to three certificate courses,” he said.

William said at least 30 students are required for a certificate course to proceed and called on locals to enrol for the courses.

Ding also urged local students to take up the various courses offered by the community college.

He pointed out that courses offered by the community college are as good as those offered by other institutions of higher learning in terms of equipping students with knowledge and skills for the job market or to venture into business.

Ding said moreover the fee of RM60 per six-month semester or RM10 per month is affordable. The college, which started operations last July, has conducted various short courses.

The two-day courses, which are normally held on weekends, included preparation of frozen foods, western cuisine, cupcakes, make-up, hair styling, flower arrangement and ferro cement. The fee for the two-day short courses is RM10 per day.
