PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will continue providing counseling for the families of passengers onboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 until the mystery of its disappearance is resolved.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the counseling process was in the second stage now with the families, who were still awaiting an answer on the fate of their loved ones, open and willing to receive counseling.

“During the first week (phase one) they were too distraught and shocked for it. But now some of them are seeing our counselors,” she told a press conference after meeting the affected families at the Everly Hotel, here today.

She said so far 26 individuals from 37 families who were staying at the hotel have received counseling.

Once they go home the Social Welfare Department in their respective districts will provide the services, she added.

Rohani said the ministry and other parties such as MCA and non-governmental organisations would also be responsible for such services to the staff of Malaysia Airlines which appear to have been traumatised by the incident.

On a related note she said effective Friday the Ministry would also be taking over the airline’s role in looking after the welfare of the passengers’ families, including their lodging, in collaboration with the Putrajaya Corporation. –BERNAMA
