Mechanic jailed, fined for threatening man

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced a local mechanic to three weeks’ jail and fined him RM1,000, in default two months’ jail for threatening a man.

Mansur Nurdin, 21, pleaded guilty before deputy registrar of the High Court Ryan Sangiraan Rayner Jr, to threatening the man using a knife at a car accessory shop in Putatan on February 16.

He was convicted under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of seven years and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The facts of the case stated that the accused, who was a former worker of the victim, came to the shop armed with a knife and caused fear to the complainant.

Investigation revealed that the accused and the victim had a verbal argument and the accused became angry and later took the knife and chased after the victim to the shop.

When they entered the shop, the accused stopped chasing as the victim had taken an iron rod. The accused then left the shop.

In a separate case, an unemployed man received RM2,000 fine, in default, four months’ jail by the same court for injuring his uncle.

Fanddy Baidin, 29, admitted to hurting his uncle aged 51 by punching his face twice at a house at Kampung Kayu Madang in Menggatal on September 9, 2013.

The offence was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code which is punishable by a jail term of up to two years or a fine, upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Syahrin Ali told the court that the quarrel broke out when both of them were drinking alcohol and the accused accused the victim of doing something bad to the accused’s father a long time ago.

In another Magistrate’s Court, a Filipina was fined RM529.60, in default, two months’ jail for possessing contraband cigarettes for the purpose of selling them.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar fined Lajimah Suari, 54, after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967 which is punishable under Section 135 (1) (i) (aa) of the same Act.

The indictment provides for a fine of up to 10 times of the value of the seized items or a three years’ jail or both, upon conviction.

The accused was caught possessing 12 boxes of cigarettes at Jalan Kampung Air here on March 18.
