KUCHING: PKR Sarawak is supportive of an independent body to investigate claims of health hazard posed by the aluminium smelting plant in Balingian.

Its vice chairman See Chee How said he and those involved were in the process of setting up the body.

Villagers living near the smelting plant had complained about health hazards posed by the aluminium smelting plant.

In fact, they blamed it for the widespread cases of lung cancer in villages and longhouses in the vicinity.

The issue came to light after several short videos shot by a documentary filmmaker were uploaded into YouTube since last year.

State PKR chairman Baru Bian said VCDs of the videos were now making its rounds in Balingian, which is in the midst of a by-election.
