Man killed in Sandakan car-bus crash

FATAL: The wrecked car of the deceased at the scene of the accident.

SANDAKAN: A 29-year-old man here was killed when the car he was driving collided with an express bus at Mile 27, off Labuk Road, around 11.25am, yesterday.

District police chief, ACP Rowell Marung said the man, identified as Aziril Ghani, died at the scene of accident.

Rowell said based on investigation, Aziril was believed to be on his way to Sandakan Town from Mile 32, while the express bus was heading to Kota Kinabalu from Sandakan.

The deceased, who was driving on the opposite lane, was said to be trying to avoid a pothole when his vehicle collided head-on with the bus.

Aziril was pinned to his seat and was removed from his vehicle by personnel from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department.

The 44-year-old bus driver and its 45 passengers were not injured.

Rowell said the case would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Acts 1987.
