MIRI: Two Bruneians arrested by police on Monday morning for possessing Eramin 5 and Ecstasy were drug sellers and not dealers.

Miri police chief ACP Gan Tian Kee said initial investigation on the two men found only small amounts of Eramin 5 pills and Ecstasy pills seized from them.

“Based on the amounts seized from them, the suspects were sellers only and the case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“If they were dealers, we will be investigating under Section 39B of the same act which carries the death penalty if found guilty,” Gan said when met after a parade in conjunction with 207th Police Day at Miri Police Headquarters here yesterday.

Gan said the two suspects, both 28 years old, were arrested at Pelita Utama road in a Mercedes E200 with a Brunei registration number and 46 Eramin 5 pills and 30 Ecstasy pills seized from them.

The pills were kept inside a cigarette packet by one of the suspects.

A total of 259 police officers of different ranks took part in a parade to mark the 207th Police Day celebration here yesterday.

At the event, Gan presented appreciation certificates to several police officers for their excellent work and contribution to the force and to a few community leaders and crime journalists here.

Also present were Gan’s deputy, Superintendent Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.
