Four foreigners jailed, whipped for illegal entry

KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court here yesterday sentenced four foreigners, including three women to jail and whipping for illegal entry or without valid documents.

The three women, Nafisa Abu Bakar, 32, Ella Vrianty Juneral, 20, and Jeany Fe Neri Bueno, 19, were fined RM5,000, in default, two months’ jail, while Berhamin Amil, 28, was sentenced to five months’ jail and a stroke of the cane by judge Mohd Hafizi Abdul Halim after all four pleaded guilty to the offence.

They were charged under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000, or jail term up to five years, or both, with local sureties and whipping of not more than six strokes.

The three women accused were detained on March 23 at 1.05am at an entertainment centre in Luyang, while Berhamin was arrested on March 22 at 6pm in Menggatal town.
