NEW DELHI: Datuk Lee Chong Wei is the only Malaysian to reach the semi-finals of Yonex Sunrise-BWF Metlife India Open Super Series badminton championships.

The world number one shuttler made a slow start but then went on the offensive to send India’s Kahyap Parupalli packing, 21-15, 21-13.

“He played very well. First it was point to point and then I just went on to finish the game by moving faster and making more attacks,” he told reporters after his match at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here, yesterday.

“Kashyap is a tougher opponent compared to the previous ones,” he noted.

Chong Wei will meet either Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen or China’s Du Pengyu at the semi-final today.

Malaysia’s women’s doubles and mixed doubles lost to the Korean pairs in the quarter-finals.

In the women’s doubles, Vivian Hoo Kah Mun/Woon Khe Wei were thrashed by Korea’s Jung Kyung Eun/Kim Ha Na, 9-21, 17-21.

Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, Chan Peng Soon/Lai Pei Jing lost to Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na after a tough three-set match 15-21, 21-19, 10-21. — Bernama
