Couple fined for committing affray in public

KOTA KINABALU: A local couple was fined RM200, in default, ten days’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court for committing affray in a public place.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar meted the sentence on Dionysia Jimmy, 25, and Rozitah Abedi, 19, after they both pleaded guilty to the joint charge.

Both accused had admitted to pushing, shoving and cursing at each other near the receptionist counter of a hotel in the city here on March 29, this year at around 12.40 pm.

The charge framed under Section 160 of the Penal Code for committing affray is punishable with up to one month’s jail, or a fine of up to RM200, or both, upon conviction.

Inspector Lim Swee Beng prosecuted the case while both accused were unrepresented.
