SIBU: Construction on SJK Tung Hua’s new RM3.8 million building is going smoothly as planned.

School board chairman Temenggong Vincent Lau said the new building is expected to be ready by next year.

He called on Tung Hua Old Students Association members to work closely with the board to upgrade the school’s facilities.

“This is because Tung Hua Schools are not fully funded by the government. Thus close cooperation between all the members of the Tung Hua Old Students Association and Tung Hua Schools board of management is vital to ensure that the students will be able to study in a more conducive environment,” Lau said during the Tung Hua Old Students Association 25th anniversary celebration dinner on Sunday.

He pointed out that the Tung Hua Old Students Association, Tung Hua Schools board of management and parent-teacher association raised RM160,000 to install air conditioning at the Tung Hua Secondary School Assembly Hall.

Meanwhile, Tung Hua Old Students Association president Teresa Wong said the reputation of Tung Hua Schools has been developed over the years.

“Our reputation exists because of the long history and honoured traditions built up by each one of you present here tonight at this 25th Anniversary Celebration Dinner of Tung Hua Old Students Association,” she said.

Guest of honour Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Daniel Ngieng officiated at the dinner sponsored by Joseph Chong and Nee Chee Kiong.
