MIRI: For the third consecutive year, IBS College is back with the ‘Go Bald Campaign’ for Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), and this year they will be hosting a satellite shave for its students as well as interested members of the public.

Its principal Dr Anthony Hii, who briefed the project to his students, said they are targeting more participants to raise more funds.

“Apart from students’ contribution, the project which will be handled fully by our college’s Student Council will be approaching other students from other faculties as well as lecturers, administration staff and their families for the noble cause,” said Hii.

He added the month-long project which began from its launch yesterday will end on May 8 prior to the shaving event which will be held on the same day at IBS College from 10am to 12pm.

As for the number of participants, he said they were targeting at least 20 supporters to go bald while a minimum of RM5,000 or more is targeted to be pledged.

“On the other hand, the administration and I will do the best we can to help promote and perhaps top up the figure. We will decide until then.

“At the moment, around five people have already registered to pledge for the noble cause, and we look forward for more to come,” he added.

Last year, a total of 12 supporters comprising students and lecturers from IBS College went bald at the major event held at a shopping mall here.

The crowd attending the briefing by Go Bald 6.0 Miri organising chairperson Shirley Ariffin, SCCS outstation liaison and Go Bald 6.0 advisor Jocelyn Hee, Go Bald 6.0 Bintulu organising chairperson Audrey Yong and committee members were also shown a SCCS introductory video which resulted in some teary eyes.

Shirley, who was initially called to give a short speech to the students, ended in tears as well.

Meanwhile, this coming Friday (April 11), Samling Corporation will be holding a satellite shave at its head office from 3pm onwards in a bid to support the cause.
