LAWAS: Yang di-Petua Negeri Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will be invited to grace the opening ceremony of the 26th annual general meeting (AGM) of Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (Perkim) Sarawak Division in Lawas on April 19.

This would be his first visit to Lawas as Head of State since stepping down as chief minister of Sarawak last month, picking Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem as his successor in a smooth transition of power in the state.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this after chairing a preparatory meeting in Lawas recently, which was attended by heads of government departments and agencies, community leaders and Perkim office-bearers.

The AGM will be held in Lawas for the first time on April 18-20, with president of Perkim Sarawak, Datuk Hanifah Ashree Taib on hand.

Datuk Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud, Perkim Lawas branch chairperson, has been instrumental in bringing the AGM to be held in Lawas for the first time, the first Perkim AGM to be held outside the state capital.
