Youth claims trial to outraging modesty

KUCHING: A youth charged with outraging the modesty of a woman claimed trial before a magistrates’ court here yesterday.

Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman adjourned the case involving Mohd Azaiswan Hadjeni, 20, from Sematan, who pleaded not guilty to committing the offence last April 3 around 7am at Kampung Rampangi, Petra Jaya here.

The magistrate released him on court bail with RM2,500 to be deposited with the court with two sureties pending the disposal of the case.

The case will be further mentioned on April 24 while the trial has been scheduled for June 18-19.

It is said that a 28-year-old mother was taking her two children to school on a motorcycle, when the accused — who was riding a motorcycle in the same direction — grabbed her right breast.

The woman managed to take note of the motorcycle’s registration number and spotted a mole on the man’s face.

Following a police report, the suspect identified as Mohd Azaiswan was arrested by the police at a Jalan Sultan Tengah food court around 4pm on April 4.

Meanwhile in a Sessions Court, Shukri Johan, 19, from Kampung Bintawa Ulu, who pleaded guilty to an assault charge will know his fate on April 29.

Judge Nixon Keneddy Kumbong, who presided over the case, adjourned the sentencing for Shukri’s social report to be presented by the Welfare Department officer.

The teenager hurt another man using a spanner and a chair together with three other persons still at large around 8.30pm on March 13 at a cafe in Kota Sentosa.

He is charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same
Code, which provides for up to 14 years in prison and a fine or whipping.
