Mampu, MDeC implement four BDA public sector pilot projects

MELAKA: The Malaysian Administrative Modernisation And Management Planning Unit (Mampu) and the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) will implement four big data analytics (BDA) projects for the public sector, says Mampu Director-General Datuk Wira Omar Kaseh.

The four projects are Price Monitoring BDA which would be implemented in collaboration with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry; Sentiment Analysis BDA (Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission), Crime Prevention BDA (Home Ministry) and BDA Infectious Disease Forecast (Health Ministry).

“Mampu has implemented various initiatives such as 1GovNet, IGovUC, IGovCloud and the Public Sector Data Centre. This will later be used as a platform for the implementation of big data and open data in Malaysia,” he said.

Omar was speaking at the launch of the Public Sector Big Data and Open Data Conference themed, “Transforming Big Data in the Delivery of Public Sector Services” here yesterday.

He said Big Data was a global trend today and research proved that the importance of this initiative as a decision-making tool among the top management in the United States.

“Many countries have implemented this initiative such as Singapore, United Kingdom and the United States of America,” he said.

He said research by Bloomberg Businessweek last year showed that 81 per cent of the respondents agreed that Big Data was important in achieving industry  targets. — Bernama
