Man denies peeping at woman taking shower

KOTA KINABALU: A local man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with outraging the modesty of a woman by peeping at her while she was bathing.

Derry Mintai, 31, pleaded not guilty to the charge before magistrate Ryan Sagirann Rayner Jr, who set April 30 for his trial.

He allegedly peeped at the 21-year-old woman while she was in the shower at Bandaran Berjaya on November 18, 2013.

The charge under Section 509 of the Penal Code carries a prison term of up to five years, or with a fine.

Assistant superintendent Sabrina Jinuis acted for the prosecution.

In another Magistrate’s Court here yesterday, a local man was fined RM1,000, in default, one month’s jail for house trespass.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar imposed the fine on Yong Fook Hin, 47, after he pleaded guilty to illegally entering a unit at Angkasa Apartment, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, Menggatal, on April 4, this year.

Meanwhile, a jobless man claimed trial to a similar offence before magistrate Ryan Sagirann Rayner Jr who then fixed April 24 this year for case management.

Li Jia Xing, 26, denied trespassing into the home of an 80-year-old senior citizen along Jalan Kobusak, Penampang, on March 15, this year at around 3 am.

The court released him on RM2,000 bail with two local sureties.

Meanwhile, brothers Bonel Mijal, 22 and Belna Mijal, 20, denied possessing two stolen mountain bicycles belonging to Kelvin Chong @ Wilson, 53.

They were alleged to have in their possession the stolen bicycles at the public toilet of the Likas Sports Complex tennis court on April 2, this year.

The joint charge under Section 411 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code is punishable with a maximum of five years’ jail or with fine or both, on conviction.

Both accused were denied bail as they are without valid documents.
