Sarawak halts Terengganu’s chances to lead the league

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak prevented high-riding Terengganu for helming the Super League with a 2-1 win over the East Coast giant at the Stadium Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, Kuala Terengganu tonight.

Trengganu failed to capitalise on home ground advantage to dislodge League leader Pahang and had to be satisfied with their third placing in the table prior to the match.

However Sarawak latest foreign signing import Ryan Griffiths, former Australian striker, finally found his scoring touch in the 76th minute, which turned out to be the winning goal after team mate S.Chanturu put the team ahead as early as in the second minute.

Terengganu had to thank Sarawak’s Junior Edstal for cancelling the lead in the 38th minute with his own goal.

In the Stadium Tan Sri Hassan Yunos, Larkin, Johor, the home team, Johor Darul Ta’zim defeated Selangor PKNS 1-0 with a courtesy own goal by Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Noor in the third minute.

Meanwhile in the Premier League challenge, Police maintained their stronghold in the league when they defeated SPA Putrajaya FC 3-0 at Stadium Hang Jebat, Melaka.

Police’s import Chad Charles Souza fired two goals in the fifth and 18th minute while mid-fielder Mohammad Munir Amran netted the other goal in the 15th minute.

In Stadium Majlis Perbandaran Pasir Gudang, Penang failed to continue their winning streak when they lost 3-2 to Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II).

JDT II scored twice through import striker Braulio Nobrega Rodriguez in the 45th and 90th minute while the other goal was contributed by Shahril Ishak in the 45th minute.

Penang who is second in the league standing replied through Beungo Andre in the 55th minute and ten minutes later by Lee Gil Hoon.

In Stadium Bandaraya, Pulau Pinang, Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBPP) finally notched their first win in the league when they upstaged Sabah 1-0 with Mohd Faiz Mohd Nasir put his name in the score card in the 18th minute. — BERNAMA
