KUCHING: Jane Chang Yin Ying achieved her best results this year when she reached the final of the women’s doubles at the BMW Malaysian National Circuit 2nd leg at Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur recently.

The 19-year-old lass from Kuching, Sarawak partnered former national women’s No. 1 Jawariah Nordin from Negeri Sembilan and they lost to Indonesian pair of Oxi Gravitasi and Sagung Putri 6-7(5), 6-0, (8-10) in the final.

“It was a very close match. We were up 7-4 in the super tie-break and I made many mistakes to allow our opponents to catch up 7-7, 8-7 and we were tied at 8-8 before losing 8-10,” she said.

“We could have won the final. I am very disappointed and frustrated and I hope to do better in the next three legs of the national circuit,” said Jane.

Nevertheless, Jane is grateful to have Jawariah as her partner for the first time and said she had learnt much from the national player.

“Jawariah shared her experience with me and she was the winner of the singles competition,” added Jane.

Jane-Jawariah had a first round bye and they beat Penang pair Zian Kim Khoo-Natalie Loke 6-1, 6-2 in the second round. They went on to beat the combined pair of Juliana Shalini (Kuala Lumpur) and Zerin Prisha (Selangor) 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals before disposing of Michelle Khoo and Norhanis Sani of Penang 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-finals.

In the women’s singles, Jane beat Cheryl Ye Aichun of Sabah 6-1, 6-2 before bowing out of the third round 0-6, 0-6 to Jawariah.

Earlier this year, Jane made the last 16 of the women’s singles and quarterfinals of the

women’s doubles in the first leg of the BMW Malaysian National Circuit.

“I would also like to express my thanks to my father for his strong support, gym trainer from GymBox Mohammad Nasrul Faiz and coach Yong Pui Choon for their guidance.”

Meanwhile, Sukma shadow team player Alvin Teng won the Tier 2 men’s singles after enjoying a walkover from Brunei’s Aiman Abdullah in the final while Linda Liong won the Tier 2 women’s singles after she beat Ariana Muralidharan 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
