KUANTAN: Police have detained 12 men to help in the investigation into the murder of a road construction labourer at his house in the Sungai Kerpan low-cost housing area near Kuala Lipis on Sunday, police said yesterday.

Kuala Lipis Police chief Supt Abdul Razak Hassan said that in the incident, which occurred at about 1.30am, K Panaselvam, 50, was believed to have gotten into a quarrel with a group of men who went to his house on motorcycles and in a car and attacked him with sticks.

He said Panaselvam suffered serious injuries in the head and body, and was taken by his family to the Kuala Lipis Hospital from where he was referred to the Temerloh Hospital for treatment.

“However, he died at 8.30pm,” he told Bernama.

Abdul Razak said that prior to the incident, Panaselvam’s daughter, in her 20s, lodged a police report about a group of men who went to her house and created a commotion outside.

He said police rushed to the house and the men quickly dispersed.

“Police believe the men returned to the house later and a quarrel broke out,” he said.

He said police were still investigating the cause of the quarrel and the 12 men, in their 20s to 30s, were being held at the Kuala Lipis police headquarters lock-up to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. — Bernama
