KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Promotion of Technical Education) Datu Len Talif Salleh has been appointed chairman of newly-formed Politeknik Kuching’s advisory committee.

Other members of the committee were Politeknik Kuching’s director Clara Ong Guat Leng who will automatically become its permanent member, CEO and chairman of Sarawak Youth Innovative Corporation (Kobis) Zaiwin Kassim, senior manager of Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation, Andrew Ronggie; Uchimono and Co director Dr Lau Chong Chuan and Sunway College Sarawak director Joseph Lim Jit Sek.

Also in the committee are human resources services executive officer of Johor’s Lotte Chemical Titan, Teng Hooi Yee and head of Regional Network and Service Operation of Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd, Khairul Hakim Mohd Rasid.

The committee is appointed for two terms based on members’ expertise, profession and position in their respective organisations which could contribute significantly to the future development of the institution.

The advisory committee held their first meeting at the polytechnic’s meeting room yesterday morning. It was also attended by Politeknik Kuching deputy directors Mohd Anwar Dris and Jemien Ental.

A statement from Politeknik Kuching said the advisory committee will assist the institution in ensuring the smoothness of its development planning, and implementation of infrastructure and curriculum to meet the nation’s technical training requirements.

It also acts as a channel of communication to uphold good relationship between the institution and industrial and business communities at large.

The committee, from time to time, will make recommendations on matters related to the design of the curriculum and new courses to be introduced to enable Polytechnic Kuching to become a preferred technical institution in the future.

The committee is also responsible for providing feedback to the institution on present labour market situation and requirements to enable its management to make the necessary adjustments anytime.
