No radioactive leakage in glove factory in Rawang — Fire dept

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department yesterday confirmed that there has been no radioactive leakage in a factory producing medical gloves in Rawang near here as spread on the social media.

The deputy director of the Selangor Fire Department Operations Mohd Sani Harul said the rumours were spread following a small fire at about 5.30am yesterday, involving several boxes of gloves at a
factory located in the industrial area.

“False information has been spread about this incident on the social media such as WhatsApp which may cause the local residents to be concerned about their safety.

Speaking to Bernama here yesterday, Mohd Sani said he hoped these rumours would be stopped.

He said the fire department received a call from the public about the incident at 5.59am.

He said the Hazardous Substances Unit (HAZMAT) and the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) confirmed that there had been no radioactive leakage detected at the factory and its surrounding areas.

Eight members of the Rawang Fire and Rescue Department Station arrived at the location at 6.07am but there were no reported victims in the incident. — Bernama
