Senadin Gateway to make presence felt

MIRI: Green Summit Development Sdn Bhd is oozing with excitement that its first mixed development project – Senadin Gateway – is ready to take off.

The ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled to be held on Saturday.

During the project’s soft launching last January, it was revealed that Phase One would comprise 64 units of three and four-storey shophouses and a shopping mall.

Green Summit Development’s chief executive officer Councillor James Hii Sing Lung said construction would be in full swing after the ground-breaking ceremony.

“This project is a new milestone for us,” he beamed.

He said his firm’s first project was Green Edge I, launched in 2009 with only two employees. It was a residential project comprising eight houses.

Green Summit Development launched its first commercial project – Sevenew – in 2012, and has ventured further with ‘Senadin Gateway’.

Hii said although their five-year journey was filled with challenges and barriers, the results were pleasing and fruitful, and had motivated them to continue to do better.

Senadin Gateway, he enthused, would make a fine `piece of puzzle’ to fill up the blueprint for northern Miri. There are over 100,000 people living in this corner, which is over 30 per cent of Miri’s population.

“Other than its strategic location and the nearest commercial centre to Brunei, Senadin Gateway will also serve as a fine-shopping gateway, or stopover, for more than two million Bruneians who enter and exit the Sungai Tujuh Immigration checkpoint annually.

“We are optimistic that Senadin Gateway will contribute greatly to the growth and economy of Miri.”

Hii explained that Senadin Gateway boasts an all-inclusive ‘neighbourhood community’ concept, targeting families, youths and students as its main clientele.

It would be built over two phases, and in total would have 104 units of three and four storey shophouses.

The 64 units of three and four storey shophouses under Phase One are scheduled to be completed in 18 months’ time. The shopping mall to be built under this phase would be fully owned and run by the developer. It is scheduled to open its doors by the end of 2016.

Hii said the shophouses and shopping mall would complement each other to cover every need of the community, besides providing them with utmost convenience and a decent place to hang out with friends and families.

During the soft launching last January, Green Summit Development asked the public to propose a name for the mall, and after going through the proposals, it decided that it would be named JoyUs Senadin Neighbourhood Mall.

“The whole project will fetch a Gross Development Value (GDV) exceeding RM200 million, and it is believed the birth of Senadin Gateway will redefine the neighbouring landscape and improve the lifestyles of the public.”

To ensure JoyUs Senadin Neighbourhood Mall is a success, Hii said a mall management team and tenant sourcing had been set in motion.

Thus far, besides Nam Leong Retail Group being the anchor tenant with a supermarket and department store, reputable players from the food and beverage, fashion and entertainment sectors had been approached to open outlets in the mall, and quite a number of them had declared their interests and commitment.

The confirmed ones include Ma Baker Café Bakery, Samsung, Red One, Secret Recipe, Sugar Bun, Watsons, Cosway, Ad Jeans, Hari-Hari, SOX World, XES, Leisure Centre; King’s Archery, K-Box, Youth World Archery Championship and Crystal Bowling Centre.

Hii said contacts with cinema operators in Malaysia were “progressing positively”.

Besides focusing on the success of Senadin Gateway, Green Summit Development would also be promoting its ‘One Love One Button’ charity activity to collect buttons from the public.

Hii said this charity initiative would run for three years and for every button received RM1 would be donated to selected charity bodies.

The buttons received would be used as part of the mall’s decoration upon its completion in 2016, and the proceeds would be donated to selected charity bodies at the end of the three-year charity project.

Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman has been invited to officiate at the ground-breaking ceremony this Saturday, and the auspicious occasion would also mark the start of the ‘One Love One Button’ project.

“The inspiration of using buttons in this event comes from the idea of easy access. Button is a small fastener to hold clothes together on a person. It is a common item that is obtainable in many areas of our life although it can never play a key role in life like money or food, but always plays an important part in life in terms of beauty and to complete our clothes.

“The same goes to ‘love’. Although it might not be as crucial as wealth and intelligence, love is always important in making this world a better place to live. Something that is so easily accessible but depending on your own initiative, we hope the public will contribute one button as a sign of showing your love and care to those in need.”
