KRANG: Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa has reassured the people, particularly those in rural areas, that the government is not taking away their native customary rights (NCR) land.

Speaking at the handover of land titles at Balai Skim Raya yesterday a function organised by Land and Survey Department (Sri Aman), Johnical advised the people in his Engkilili constituency to cooperate with the department to allow for smoother perimeter survey of their land.

He said the people would gain much from having their lands surveyed and also making it easier for them to acquire agricultural assistance from the government.

“Furthermore, once the land has been surveyed, the landowners can develop them into plantations for commercial purposes in addition to getting fast approval of assistance from the relevant government agencies,” he said.

Johnical also called on Land and Survey Department here to carry out their perimeter survey programme in his constituency as soon as possible.

Eight plots of NCR land measuring 4,879 hectares belonging to residents from 19 longhouses in Skrang, Engkilili have been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserve under the State Land Code.

Lubok Antu SAO Ignatius Ayai Dom, assistant officer of Special Affairs Department (Engkilili) Edwin Anceh and several community leaders were among those present at the function.
