‘Rural community no longer easily manipulated’

MIRI: The rural community can no longer be easily manipulated by those who try to gain political mileage by criticising the government.

Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Development Rosey Yunus said the rural community is now wiser when it comes to choosing their leaders.

“Those who live in rural areas are always being targeted by irresponsible people who attempt to oppose our present government,” she said.

Rosey pointed out that rural folk now enjoy various facilities including electricity supply, roads, treated water supply, education, health and telecommunication services.

“What can the opposition do for the rural people as they merely instigate the present government but they themselves can’t even work together among the pact,” she said.

She was commenting on the Democratic Action Party’s (DAP’s) aspirations to woo voters from rural Sarawak, especially the Dayak community.

“DAP merely condemns the present BN (Barisan Nasional) government but the people can see in Penang that most of the people there are now aware of the party’s political agenda and how they have not solved the people’s problems,” she said.

Rosey urged the rural community to reject the DAP and its Pakatan Rakyat (PR) component members Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), which only intend to instigate the people to hate the government.

She said the BN government has proven it can improve the people’s standard of living, bring about development and maintain multiracial unity.

Rosey added that the government is continuing to provide development to the rural area in stages.
