Former Temenggong’s kitchen catches fire

MIRI: The kitchen of a former Temenggong’s house at Jalan Hilltop here was razed by fire at about 8.30pm on Tuesday.

During the incident, only the house’s two maids were at home while the former Temenggong and his wife were away on vacation.

It is learnt that a neighbour was the first person to notice the fire and immediately shouted at the maids to leave the house.

The neighbour also called the Miri Fire and Rescue Station for help, which subsequently dispatched seven firemen and one fire engine and another seven from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station with one fire engine to the scene.

It was learnt that the storeroom at the house was also destroyed by fire on March 26 this year.

Meanwhile, in a separate fire incident, a room at a wooden house at Piasau Utara here was also razed by fire at about 11pm on the same day.

The 25-year-old owner was not at home when the incident occurred.

Firemen who rushed to the scene managed to put out the fire before it spreaded to other houses in the area.

Police are investigating both cases.
